USA here I come

OK folks, I think it’s time to inform you about my visit to the US of A in October.

Here’s the plan: I’m flying to New York next Thursday to visit a very special person and finally see her again. Most of you know who I’m talking about. I’m gonna spend the weekend there (and I’m really really really really excited about that!!!^^).

After that, I’ll continue my journey on Monday and fly to San Francisco. I’ll stay there for 5 weeks. Again, most of you already know what I’m talking about. Those of you who don’t: it’s related to my new job. Wait and see ūüėČ

Yarrr!!

T’day is talk like a pirrrrrate day, yarrr!! Although the day is almost over here in good ol’ Switzerland, it has just started in the ports of western hemisphere. So make the best out of it and say yarrrrrr to yourrr maties!

Drink up me hearties yo ho!

PS: You can even set yerr facebook language and messages to pirate english! Go to your account prefs and try it out, yarrr!

Concerning the new Microsoft ads

So Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld.

They make a great team if you ask me. The ads make absolutely no sense, and most people will agree with me on that. But they’re funny! Just the fact that Bill has a Shoe Circus Platinum Member Card is hilarious. And it has that super-old photo of him on it! I mean come on! If you’re a g33k like I am, you totally lol when you see that.

And the second ad, it’s so random, it makes you go o_0 but it’s so funny! At least that’s my opinion.

Whether the ads will make Vista sales go up or not, doesn’t matter to me. I’m sticking with OS X anyway, and hey, and least it’s good entertainment. And it’s free! Well it’s advertisement, so of course it’s free. OK some of you might point out that in the end, advertisement makes you buy stuff, makes you spend money, so in fact advertisement is not free! WRONG! Just don’t listen to the advertisement. Look at it as I do: free entertainment.

In case you haven’t seen the ads yet, here they are:

By the way: this counter-proofs that YouTube is not full of crap after all.
On the other hand, maybe it is. But at least some crap is funny.

StarCraft now working again!

Nevermind my other post. I downloaded the StarCraft 1.15.3 Patch again through macgamefiles, and although it leads you to the exact same file on the exact same Blizzard FTP server, miracoulously it worked this time. Opened it, copied everything over, double-clicked StarCraft, tadaaa! The good times are back.

Find the patch for Brood War here, and the patch for StarCraft without Brood War here (is there even anybody out there who hasn’t got Brood War? StarCraft without Brood War is like pie without‚Ķ uhm‚Ķ cream? OK not a good reference. How about salad without dressing? Spaghetti without carbonara? Bread without jam? Man I’m getting hungry.)

StarCraft 1.15.3 Update

As some of you know, their has been an issue with StarCraft and new MacBook Pros with Mac OS X 10.5 and new iMacs (or was it even all 10.5 users? I don’t remember. Doesn’t matter anyway.)

So on my MacBook Pro 15″ 2.5GHz Core 2 Duo, StarCraft would not work. You open it, the Startup Options screen appears, you hit OK, but then it closes again, with no error message what so ever. Blizzard has noticed this. And now their out with a new update. Woohoo!

Thanks to this article from the good folks at MacTechNews.de, I was informed quickly and downloaded the update. But it’s no use, because it does not open.

Whatever error -4960 is, I don’t like it. I tried downloading it again, same issue.

Solution, anyone?

Photosynth is cool (but not cool enough)

I first heard about Photosynth when I saw the video by David Pogue (click on the video entry below that says Photosynth).
Watch that. You’ll immediately understand what Photosynth is all about. It’s a really cool concept! But, unfortunately, it doesn’t work on Macs yet. If you go to their website and try to look at something while on Mac OS X, it will say: “We’re sorry, but Photosynth currently doesn’t run on your operating system. Please see our system requirements listed to the right.”
Apparently, it wasn’t always that boring message. According to TUAW it used to display a much more ironic explanation. I’ll just quote from their original post:

If you thought the new¬†Get a Mac¬†ads were spot-on or funny, then you will definitely get a kick out of this. On Microsoft’s¬†Photosynth website, they admit something that we’ve known for years: They’re not cool enough to run on Macs.

Was sich ändert

Stay tuned.
